SPUR -- Serve, Preach, Unite, Reach!
Our Mission"Go therefore and make disciples..."
What's the Purpose?
Do you ever feel like you're doing your job, but you have no sense of its real purpose?
I continue to be impressed with the sheer genius of Jesus' ministry. This is definining my purpose in this ministry. Jesus spent the majority of His time investing in a few men who would then be capable to reach the multitudes. I heard this quote recently, "Jesus restricted nine-tenths of his ministry to twleve Jews because that was the only way to reach all Americans" (Petersen). It is so easy in ministry to become wrapped up in the desire to enlarge a group. I am often guilty of thinking that influence is increased if more people are involved. That is not entirely false, however, I believe that influence for the kingdom of God multiplies exponentially when a disciple is equipped to go out and make more disciples.
This is the reason that the primary goal for my first year of ministry is to develop 12 transformed students.
A transformed student will grow into these 5 marks of spiritual maturity. That is, they will Love Jesus intimately, Live Obediently, View the World Biblically, Join in Christ's Restoration of Creation, and Invite Others to do Likewise.
But how can we do this?
Triad Groups
Transformation is unfolding in Triad Groups. These discipleship clusters will be the foundation for students' transformation and for the ministry. I started three triad groups for men. A triad group of women has also started. God is surely answering your prayers. I intentionally invest in eight students so they might develop into men and women who begin to live out their faith in every area of life. Please pray with me that these 8 students will be equipped to reach 8 more students next year. Are you catching the vision with me?
"What you have heard from me through many witnesses entrust to faithful people who will be able to teach others as well" (2 Timothy 2:2 NRSV)
